We love taking the kids to the theatre and what better time to do this than in the run-up to Christmas.

For the fourth Christmas season, Arthur Pita’s The Little Match Girl is returning to Sadler’s Wells.

Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story, this tale of a young street girl’s hopes and dreams is beautifully told through dance, song and original live music. The show opens on Wednesday 13 December and runs until Saturday 24 December 2017. Suitable for all ages 5+.

A snowy stage sets the scene for an icy cold Christmas Eve in an imaginary Italian town, where an impoverished young street girl wanders the ever-darkening streets with just one final match to keep her warm. Homeless, cold and hungry, the little match girl sees a vision of her beloved grandmother who guides her up into the night sky and takes her to the moon. Now, on a clear night, if you look closely, you might see the light of a shooting star, or is it a match burning brightly?

Receiving its premiere at DanceEast in November 2013, the production has since toured the UK and China and has enjoyed three Christmas seasons at the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler’s Wells.
